From the beginning, H2 Green Steel had hoped to be able to take the raw material for the steel to be made in a new steel mill in Boden from the nearby LKAB in Kiruna. According to DI, this is what the company wrote in its first application for an environmental permit.
But it won’t be like that.
“Until we have, among other things, a double track Boden-Luleå in place, there will not be a robust transport infrastructure for any actor for the volumes involved,” says Niklas Johansson, director of communications and climate at LKAB to DI.
Thus, the raw material for the steel mill in Boden can be taken from suppliers further away.
