Last night, Börje Salming returned to his Toronto – and was greeted by tears and standing ovations during an emotional evening.
– No one will ever forget this moment, this match, this evening, says the legend and Salming’s former teammate Darryl Sittler.
“The King” was last night back to his second home, Toronto, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Scotiabank Arena.
Börje Salming was led out by two other legends, Darryl Sittler and Börje Salming.
Together they received the tributes from the home fans and it was an incredibly emotional moment. The old legends were noticeably taken, as were players like William Nylander on the bench.
Börje Salming, noticeably affected by the disease ALS, is in Toronto to participate in the annual Hockey Hall of Fame weekend.
– This is what Börje wanted. He told us long after he was diagnosed that he really wanted to be here. And here he is, says Sittler.
– Being able to stand by his side tonight was something special and something I will never forget. I think the hockey fans will remember too.
