No one has been able to do this! Jukola’s message culminated in a historic Swedish celebration

No one has been able to do this Jukolas message

Stora Tuna, led by the Svenski brothers, won the fourth consecutive Jukola relay.

The Swedish Stora Tuna celebrates the victory of the orienteering Jukola relay in Porvoo. Stora Tuna made history, because no team has won Jukola’s relay four times in a row.

For a long time it seemed that OK Linne was going to win. Great Tuna Emil Svensk however, caught a gap of almost three minutes and anchored his team to the championship. Svensk arrived at the finish line at 7:21 in the morning.

OK Linnen Lukas Liland couldn’t answer in the final stretch, but ended up 19 seconds behind.

The third was Helsingin Suunnitajat, which was abandoned last year. In the end, the people from Helsinki were nine minutes and nine seconds behind the winner.

The anchor of the navigators Olli Ojanaho described the team’s performance as even. He also thanked Topi Syrjäläinen performance in the final moments of the third leg.

The man from Syrjälä fell into a muddy, wide and deep ditch, but was able to pull himself up after about a minute of struggle.

– The map was in a hurry and the guy was in a knot. It was a really difficult final journey, Syrjäläinen commented to Urheilu.

See how Syrjäläinen described the situation in the video.

– There are sometimes worse days in the night messages, because this is a tough game for the body to run at this time of day. You just have to fight and Topi fought well in a difficult situation. It was an important final track and we were able to continue in good positions, Ojanaho praised.

The story continues after the pictures.

Purinto bent fourth

Tampere’s Pyrintö was in striking distance in second place for a long time, but in the sixth leg Stora Tuna pushed past the people of Tampere.

The effort ended up in fourth place when Olli Ojanaho of Helsinki Suunnistina passed by Fabian Aebersold. Pirintö was less than 15 and a half minutes behind the winner.

– A slightly bitter taste remained. According to the plan, we were with the top all the time and fighting for victory. Many times, the anchor part is used to solve the investments, and now this happened. Margins are small, even if you run all night, Pyrinnön Aleksi Niemi tightly.

Demanding tracks

The tracks in Porvoo were demanding and there were a lot of breakdowns on the grids. This was visible as really big differences already at the beginning of the message. After the third leg, OK Linne led Pyrintö by two and a half minutes.

Stora Tuna, on the other hand, was in third place, four minutes away, and the top ten teams could not fit within ten minutes of each other.

Stora Tuna, however, stayed within striking distance for a long time and finally wrestled to victory. Orienteering in the team Jesper Svensk, Olle Kalered, Joakim Svensk, Anton Sjökvist, Henrik Johannesson, Viktor Svensk and Emil Svensk.

Jukola’s message was guided for the 74th time. Next year, the event will take place in Kauhava.
