Tomas Holmström was not exactly a magician on the ice.
But sometimes the Swede got the feeling.
And then surprised everyone.
Tomas Holmström is undoubtedly one of Sweden’s biggest NHL stars of all time. The Swede spent a full 15 seasons in the world’s best hockey league, lifting the Stanley Cup dent four times.

The tough forward was hugely lovable by the Red Wings crowd. He was a real fighter, and a player who always stood up for his teammates on the ice.
With Tomas Holström’s 90 pans, the physical game was one of his main qualities, and not many players could upset him on the ice.
The Swede was also a reasonably reliable goal scorer, but certainly not the one who accounted for the most spectacular goals. Tomas Holmström was a real goal thief and usually found the net by placing himself nicely in front of the checkout.
Sometimes, but very rarely, however, the forward eased the myth that he could not score any good goals and stood for the completely unexpected.
Got the roof to lift
A prime example of just that was when Tomas Holmström, unsurprisingly, gained the confidence in a penalty shootout. Then the Swede showed a completely unexpected side – and made the whole of Detroit boil.
With a few neat dribbles, he fools the Blue Jackets goalkeeper, and sends the puck distinctly up into the net.
The punishment really gets the whole audience and the commentators in complete ecstasy – and everyone is so surprised that they stand up and applaud the Swede’s totally unexpected action.
Judging by the pictures, Tomas Holmström also looks quite surprised, and offers a smile.
