The Green Party’s newly elected spokesperson Daniel Helldén wants to set clear boundaries for what the party agrees to in future government negotiations. TV4 Nyheterna’s Ann Tiberg asked if nuclear power is a red line and the answer was this:
– No new nuclear power is to be built. That the Tidöpartierna should now throw out hundreds of billions on a technology that is outdated is completely wrong when we know that the new technology is on its way that can change society. That shouldn’t happen.
If it starts, do you stop it?
– If it works, yes.
Is it a red line?
– Yes, we should not have new nuclear power in Sweden.
This could become a problem if the opposition wins the next election. The Social Democrats said as recently as October that the party is open to allowing more than ten nuclear reactors:
“Currently, the number of reactors is limited to a maximum of ten, but according to the party, it is time to reassess that limit due to Sweden’s increased electricity needs and technical development in the area,” they write on their website.
The issue may therefore arise in any government negotiations between the Social Democrats and the Green Party.
