The magnetic resonance imaging performed in Helsinki revealed information to javelin thrower Oliver Helander, in the light of which he may still throw for the rest of the season.
“There is nothing abnormal in the lateral arch. There is still a small annulus tear in the lowest disc of the lumbar spine, which was already in the previous picture. Sometimes that just takes time. It should heal without surgery.”
That’s how it goes by Oliver Helander received a text message written by the doctor who consulted the MRI images taken of his side on Monday. Urheilu has seen the text message.
Javelin thrower Helander, 25, withdrew from the Finnish European Championship team on Sunday, citing a rib injury he suffered a week ago at the Kaleva Games, which has since prevented him from doing intensive training.
Since throwing at full speed is out of the question in the European Championship qualifier in Munich on Friday, Helander gave up his competition place Toni Keränen.
So there is a small tear on the side, which, however, is already an old tear. If the injury heals with rest, according to Urheilu’s information, Helander’s goal is to throw next time in the Lausanne Diamond League on August 26.
