“The artwork is located exactly where there used to be a culvert in the dam and where a gauge house stood on the dam,” explains alderman Wil Kosterman. “It is wonderful that the artwork, which is reminiscent of the former gauge house, now makes this history visible. Both for our residents and for the many visitors who come to Wijk bij Duurstede. This is where the Kromme Rijn originated. We know that this is the place where the Lek begins. There can be no misunderstanding about that now.”
