No more series because of Hollywood strike? These 10 highlights will definitely continue this year on Netflix, Amazon and Co

Hollywood stands still. The double strike by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA unions has had a massive impact on the film and television industry. Most US series will not start as planned next fall. Are there any innovations at all?

Almost all filming currently in progress will be stopped. Still, series fans can look forward to the return this year of some of their favorite shows that have already finished production. In this overview we present them to you 10 Series Returns on Netflix, Amazon, Disney+ and Co. before, which are guaranteed to be seen in 2023.

For this list, we looked at the release plans of the streaming providers (here’s an overview of all Netflix innovations) and TV stations. Series seasons that start in August – including Heartstopper and Only Murders in the Building – were not taken into account.

Series return at Amazon: The wheel of time season 2

Amazon’s big fanatasy series The Wheel of Time is about to start Season 2, bringing us new stories set in the fantasy world of Robert Jordan, where only women can wield magic until the prophecy of the “Reborn Dragon”. However, the new episodes will come with a big change. Before the start in September you can refresh your knowledge about the world of The Wheel of Time here.

Series return to Apple TV+: The Morning Show Season 3

Starring Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston, the Apple TV+ Original is high-gloss series entertainment at its best. The fantastic behind-the-scenes intrigues of a morning magazine finally return in Season 3 after a nearly two-year hiatus. In it, the future of the broadcaster UBA is on the brink, as a possible sale is in the room.

Netflix Series Returns: Sex Education Season 4

September will see the grand finale of Netflix’s popular teen comedy Sex Education. In Season 4, following the closure of Moordale Secondary School, Otis and his friends find themselves at a new school helping a new group of students with their dilemmas.

Netflix Series Returns: Lupine Part 3

The first adventures of gentleman crook Assane Diop stormed the Netflix charts in 2021 and the streaming service didn’t hesitate to extend it. After more than two years of waiting, the story continues in October with seven episodes. In it, the thief who went into hiding, Assane, returns to Paris to convince his family to leave France. But his past soon catches up with him.

Disney+ Series Returns: Loki Season 2

The MCU won’t return to the big screen until November, but Disney+ will continue before that. Tom Hiddleston’s time-traveling god, Loki, faces new mysteries from alternate realities of the multiverse in Season 2, including reuniting with TVA agent Mobius and his variant Sylvie.

Disney+ Series Returns: Doctor Who Specials

Doctor Who is a real science fiction institution. And this year begins a new era. Starting in November, Disney+ will be launching three 60th (!) anniversary specials, bringing back David Tennant in his iconic Time Lord role and introducing Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa as the new 15th Doctor. Another major change: Russell T. Davies returns to the sci-fi franchise as creative director.

Series return: Fargo season 5

After a three-year break, the next chapter of Noah Hawley’s crime anthology Fargo will open later this year. The new Season 5 story takes place in the American Midwest in 2019 and will introduce Jon Hamm as a modern western hero.

Series Return: True Detective Season 4

Unbelievable but true: The acclaimed HBO anthology True Detective really goes further. More than four years after season 3, the fourth season entitled True Detective: Night Country will be shown later this year. The new story stars Jodie Foster, a detective investigating the disappearance of several men who worked at the Tsalal Arctic Research Station in Alaska.

Series return to Netflix: The Crown season 6

Netflix’s popular monarchy drama about the life (and scandals) of Queen Elizabeth II and her family comes to an end with Season 6. In it, we see one final look at the Queen, Charles and Diana cast introduced in Season 5, and take a look back at what the royals experienced in the late ’90s and early 2000s.

Amazon Series Returns: Reacher Season 2

Amazon’s hard-hitting action series Reacher returns for Season 2 later this year. Alan Ritchson stars again in the title role. Adapting this time 11th Jack Reacher novel Trouble (Bad Luck and Trouble) from the book series by Lee Child. In it, Reacher embarks on a merciless quest for revenge when his former partner, Calvin Franz, is murdered.
