No more need to type in all the numbers on your bank card, a new online payment method is coming

No more need to type in all the numbers on

This new system will simplify online payment.

This is often a discouraging step. Paying for an online purchase is not an easy journey. If, on the sites of certain merchants, the procedure can be quick, as a general rule, it is long and not very intuitive. Very often, you are asked to enter the 16 digits written on your bank card, the expiration date and the cryptogram. Then, validation must be made with your bank: either by logging into your online account, or by entering a code received by SMS. In short, a bunch of operations which doesn’t make the experience very smooth.

But that will soon change. And that’s very good news. A much easier process for paying for online purchases will be deployed by the end of 2024 in France by Visa and Mastercard. The two transaction giants have developed a process which should no longer discourage online buyers.

The principle is simple: there will no longer be any need to enter all the numbers entered on the bank card. With just one click, the payment will be validated. To do this, you will need to choose the payment method displaying the words “Click to pay”, recognizable by its logo combining the shape of a bank card and two arrows pointing to the right. Not all online merchants will have it directly. Only those who have chosen to activate it will be able to make it appear.

How will this work? When finalizing a purchase, the customer indicates his identity and various contact details, including, of course, the email address. When the latter enters the form, a search is automatically launched to find out if Click to Pay has been activated on their bank card. If this is the case, and the merchant has also enabled it, this payment option will appear. To use it, you will need to select it and enter a one-time code sent by SMS. Only then will the cards saved in this system appear. The customer will then simply have to choose which one they wish to use and click on “Pay”.

This new payment method will not be introduced de facto for everyone. To benefit from it, you will need to register, from your bank’s customer area or directly on the Visa or Mastercard website, and authorize payment with “Click to Pay”, indicating your email address and telephone number. and obviously, his bank card number. It is already possible to link your bank card(s) to this system by clicking here for Visa or here for Mastercard. If it is already operational in the United States and the United Kingdom, the service “will begin by the end of the year” in France.
