It saves time for all victims of theft, burglary or damage to property.
Often, most people, when they are victims of theft, burglary or damage to property (tagged car or facade, damaged shutters, etc.), are reluctant or hesitant to file a complaint with the police. police station or gendarmerie. It must be said that many think that the complaint will change nothing and that the chances of regaining their property or seeing the culprit punished are slim. Still others find that the procedures are too complex and, above all, very long. You only have to go to a police station to see it… Which discourages more than one person.
But from now on, certain procedures are easier. In fact, it is now possible to file a complaint online without having to travel. Until now, it was only possible to make a pre-declaration online to report an attack on property, but you then had to go to a gendarmerie or police station to sign and complete your declaration with an agent. It also ultimately took a while, and very often, the people concerned were forced to take the morning off. Since October 13, things have evolved…
From now on, adults can do everything online, thanks to a completely paperless approach. For minors, it is up to the child’s legal representative to take care of this. In any case, victims must go to the Online Complaint site (online-complaint.masecurite.interieur.gouv.fr) to report the violation. Only acts of property damage are dealt with by the system, in particular thefts, burglaries, deliberate or unintentional damage to property, scams (excluding the Internet) and “offenses concerning illegal dumping or garbage collection”specifies the Public Service website.
There is also a condition to respect in order to be able to file a complaint online: not knowing the identity of the perpetrator. If you know their first and last name, you must file your complaint at a police station or gendarmerie. Namely that “the fact of being able to provide elements allowing the identification of the author of the facts (his description, his residence, certain of his habits, etc.) is not considered as knowledge of his identity”, say the authorities.
If you do not know their identity, you can do so online by identifying yourself with FranceConnect, then completing your declaration with a certain number of details. Then you just have to validate it. Your complaint will then be processed by an agent within 48 hours or within 7 days if there are special circumstances. An essential step, in particular to assert your rights with insurance companies.
