Firefighters spent about three hours battling a shed fire at an industrial property on Tecumseh Street early Friday, Sarnia fire officials say.

Smoke was coming from the 120-square-meter (1,300-square-foot) shed, behind a smaller industrial building in the city’s southwest, when crews arrived about 3:30 am, chief fire prevention officer Roel Bus said.

There were no injuries, and a dog feared lost in the fire was located, fire officials said in a Facebook post.

“The dog is totally fine,” Bus said.

A loft in one part of the two-section shed collapsed and the building’s entire roof structure was compromised, making it difficult to come up with a damage estimate and cause, he said.

“The structural integrity of the building was compromised, so without any major equipment it would be tough to go in there” to assess, he said.

Fire officials noted lithium-ion batteries were charging in the building, and urged people to use proper charging cords and avoid overcharging such batteries.
