Around 30 firefighters from the Paris and Airport stations managed to get the blaze under control quickly, and rescued a dog that was inside the house, Fire Chief Darren Watson told The Spectator.

Several crew members and one truck remained on scene in the early afternoon, bail tape cordoning off the front of the property, which is near Mulberry Street. It’s unclear when the scene will be cleared.

Although The Spectator could see visible charring at the back of the house, and the smell of smoke hung in the air, the house was still standing, “which is good,” Watson said.

Damage is estimated to be in excess of $500,000, he said.

It is currently undetermined what sparked the blaze, Watson said.

Silver Street was closed between Mulberry and Grand River from around 10:55 am to 12:20 pm while crews responded, according to Brant OPP.
