No injuries as SUV crashes into four parked cars Petrolia

PETROLIA – There were no injuries, but there was extensive damage after an SUV crashed into four parked cars here Saturday afternoon.

The collision, involving a dark colored Ford Explorer driving on Petrolia Line, took place around 1 pm near Station Street.

“He sideswiped four parked cars,” Jay Arns, chief of the Petrolia and North Enniskillen fire department, said.

The Explorer was resting up against the rear of a white Honda CR-V, with both vehicles visibly damaged, in parking spaces along Petrolia Line. A red Mazda CX-5 parked nearby also had a significant amount of damage to the area around its rear driver’s-side wheel. A red Hyundai Sonata and an unidentified fourth vehicle were also hit.

Arns said he wasn’t sure what caused the driver to collide with the four parked vehicles.

“OPP are investigating to see. He was otherwise fine on scene when we were there,” he said.

A Lambton OPP spokesperson didn’t immediately respond to a request for information.

Nobody was inside the parked cars at the time, Arns said.

“They were all empty,” he said.

Arns’ firefighters weren’t on scene very long.

“The guys cleared out of there pretty quick. There was not really much for us to do. There was no fluids or anything, no entrapments,” he said. “The driver was otherwise fine, so we just did traffic control and then OPP took over for the investigation.”

Lambton paramedics were briefly at the crash site.

The area is usually fairly busy on Saturdays due to the nearby Petrolia Farmers’ Market, but it closed for the season a couple of weeks ago. It was a warm but significantly windy day at the time of the crash.
