Sweden has no plans to receive and care for patients from Gaza, despite the fact that the EU Commission has contacted Sweden with such a request, reports Göteborgs-Posten.
Norway and seven EU countries have announced that they are accepting patients from Gaza, but there are currently no plans for Sweden to do the same, according to the Agency for Community Protection and Preparedness (MSB).
“Sweden has no government mission linked to Medevac from Gaza, which means that Sweden is not planning for the reception of patients or the implementation of airborne medical transport/Medevac from Gaza to Sweden at the present time,” writes MSB in an email to GP.
Health Minister Acko Ankarberg Johansson (KD) is responsible for the issue of medical evacuation from Gaza. She writes in an email response to the newspaper that Sweden supports Gaza and its surrounding area by donating medical equipment and medical supplies via the EU’s civil protection mechanism.
“Sweden follows developments, incoming requests and continuously evaluates how the Swedish support is best designed,” she writes.
