“All systems have to be checked manually. That’s a lot of work, I wouldn’t be surprised if the outage lasts the whole day,” says Pim Takkenberg, director of cybersecurity at security company Northwave from Utrecht. An update was made in certain security software that contains a programming error, he explains. “That caused the system to crash, the computers can no longer be started. Like putting the wrong fuel in a car.”
