Nissan, which continues to be among the world’s most important automobile brands, celebrates the 40th anniversary of the iconic NISMO celebrating.
The company’s statement on this matter included the following: “Founded on September 17, 1984 as Nissan’s in-house tuning, motorsport and performance division, Nissan Motorsport International Co. Limited took the name NISMO for short. Since then, the brand has embodied the parent company’s commitment to performance on both the racetrack and public roads. Originally based in Omori, Tokyo, NISMO serves as the driving force behind some of Nissan’s most exciting vehicles and motorsport pursuits. Inspired by the racetrack, the company’s slogan “From track to road” embodies its goal of delivering the ultimate Nissan performance for its drivers. Visitors to the Nissan Global Headquarters Gallery in Yokohama for the 40th anniversary celebrations will be able to see NISMO road models such as the ultra-rare NISMO 270R and the revered NISMO 400R, as well as track legends such as the Nissan R390 GT1, which finished 3rd in the 1998 Le Mans 24 Hours, the Nissan R91CP, which won the Dayton 24 Hours, and the Japan Touring Car Championship (JTCC) icon, the Calsonic Skyline GT-R Group A.

Additionally, vehicles from NISMO’s current Japan domestic model lineup, including the recently launched Ariya NISMO, AURA NISMO and FAIRLADY Z NISMO, will also be on display for visitors. The exhibition will continue until Tuesday, October 15, 2024.
In a statement to mark the 40th anniversary, Takao Katagiri, president of Nissan’s global motorsports business unit and chairman of NMC, said: “We would like to thank everyone who has supported NISMO since 1984, and we look forward to delivering speed, confidence and excitement for decades to come. Our long-standing track-to-road philosophy continues with our Super GT and Formula E factory racing programmes.”
Regarding the future, Katagiri added: “Our goal is to deliver excitement to fans on the track and translate what we learn from the racetrack into products that customers can purchase. Our long-term goal is to gradually grow our business globally by offering more exciting NISMO models to customers around the world.
“The NISMO 40th anniversary celebrations will continue with the 2024 NISMO Festival, scheduled to be held on December 1 at Fuji International Speedway. This year’s festival is dedicated to NISMO’s 40th anniversary by paying tribute to the brand’s rich heritage, racing achievements and the evolution of high-performance road cars.”
