Nintendo touches gamers’ hearts with 2-minute commercial – ‘Put a smile on my face’

Nintendo has touched the hearts of some gamers with an advertisement for the new Zelda game because it shows what video games mean to them.

What is this ad? May 12th is the release of “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom”. With an advertisement on Nintendo’s Australian YouTube channel, the company has now managed to put a smile on some gamers’ faces.

With Tears of the Kingdom, Nintendo brings the long-awaited sequel to the hit title “Breath of the Wild”, which made a lot of positive headlines on the Nintendo Switch and received an extremely impressive 97 score on the Metacritic review platform.

What’s in the ad? At the start of the commercial we see a grown man wearing a shirt and tie riding a bus to work. He is characterized by an empty and lost look, while sad music starts playing in the background.

A few seconds later we see the man coming home from work exhausted. Exhausted breathing escapes him as soon as he enters the house and sits down. He seems drained of energy, but then his gaze falls on the new Zelda game lying on his desk.

He fires up the switch, picks up the controller, and in the very next scene, he has a smile on his face as he explores the game’s open world.

The evening passes and the man clearly enjoys the video game. The next day he’s on the bus to work again, but this time without a bleak look – he’s got his Switch and is still playing Zelda. He wears a wide grin on his face. It seems that the game helps him to forget the stress of everyday life.

How do gamers react to the advertising? The advert was shared by an unofficial Zelda News account on Twitter and elicited some reactions from the community there.

The fact that the man is playing Zelda on a public bus without using headphones is irksome to some gamers. Nevertheless, many are touched by the topic of the 2-minute clip. Not because they’re such big Zelda fans, but because they can relate to what’s being shown.
