Update, January 23, 2024: After Nintendo blocked the teaser for the video for the Pokémon mod on .
According to X.com, the team behind the mod will wait a bit before releasing it: We want to [den Mod] publish free for everyone. But since Nintendo sent us a copyright claim, we’ll exercise caution for now. – ToastedShoes via X.com on February 23, 2024
What exactly does the mod do? The Pokémon mod for Palworld was released on X.com on January 22, 2024, a few days after the game’s early access release. The teaser video shows a player character who looks like Ash Ketchum from the TV series Pokémon.
The mod also replaces Cattiva with Pikachu, Lamball with Wolly and Chikipi with Flemmli:
So far only a teaser has been visible on X.com (formerly Twitter). The following scenes are shown, among others:
The Paldeck that appears also suggests that all currently available Pals have been replaced by Pokémon. For example, there are probably also Phanpy, Myrapla and Plinfa. The latter is even a starter Pokémon from the fourth generation of games.
Which YouTuber developed the mod? The mod is developed by YouTuber ToastedShoes. This currently has 738,000 subscribers on YouTube. Most of his videos are based on mods where he implements well-known IPs into video games.
Most recently, ToastedShoes worked a lot with Mortal Kombat. In it, he pitted Disney and DreamWorks characters against each other, among others.
As soon as Palworld is released, the Pokémon mod is already in the starting blocks – or is it?
What is the current release status of the mod? You cannot currently install the mod. It is not available in the Steam Workshop or via the Nexusmods platform. In addition, Palworld currently does not have official mod support.
So far, ToastedShoes has only posted the teaser on X.com and announced the full video for its YouTube channel. According to the post, it should be released sometime on January 23, 2024.
What does Nintendo say about this? There is currently no official statement from Nintendo about Palworld, although the game is repeatedly accused of simply being Pokemon with guns. However, the teaser video for the ToastedShoes mod was only removed a few hours before this news was released by a report from the rights holder X.com:
There are currently no known cases in which the Palworld developer Pocket Pair had content for its game taken offline. It can therefore be assumed that, as ToastedShoes suspects, Nintendo itself is behind the report.
The teaser was actually reposted on other social media platforms such as Instagram by various users. The original is also live on the YouTuber’s own channel in the form of a YouTube short.
After Nintendo reacted very firmly to the release of the teaser on X.com, it is questionable whether ToastedShoes will still put the promised full video live on YouTube. Nintendo does not shy away from large-scale lawsuits against fans and content creators who the company believes have violated copyright:
The intensity with which Nintendo takes action against copyright infringements can be frightening for many artists. We will definitely keep you up to date with information about the Pokémon mod for Palworld.
