Around 89 percent of the population in the Chinese province of Henan has been infected with covid-19, according to Kan Quancheng, head of the provincial health commission. Henan is the country’s third most populous province and is located in the central parts of the country. If the figures are correct, it would mean that around 88.4 million people have been infected in the province, which has close to 100 million inhabitants. China is trying to overcome the corona infection after the country eased several years of strict restrictions in the form of shutdowns, quarantine and mass testing in December. The infection is likely to increase further during the Chinese New Year, when millions of people are expected to travel from large cities to visit relatives in smaller towns.
