Nine people have been arrested after the demonstration against Israel’s government in Jerusalem on Monday evening, Reuters reports. Three people were also injured in clashes with police, writes Haaretz.

Thousands of Israelis rallied to show their displeasure with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, that an agreement to free the hostages has not yet been reached – and to demand new elections.

According to Reuters, the demonstration turned chaotic in the evening, as some protesters broke ranks and tried to break through police barriers at Netanyahu’s residence. At one point a bonfire was lit in the street and the police used water cannons to disperse the protesters.

Demonstrations against Benjamin Netanyahu’s rule, which have been ongoing for months in Israel, are expected to intensify in the coming days after the country’s war cabinet was dissolved on Monday.
