The Denver Nuggets were able to celebrate the first NBA championship in their club history. Nikola Jokic was on the attack again. The Serbian star put his name in the record books again.
The Denver Nuggets have won the NBA championship. It is the team’s first championship in club history.
Denver won the fifth game against the Miami Heat with a score of 94–89. Denver celebrates the championship with a 4–1 victory.
Denver’s big hero was once again a Serbian superstar Nikola Jokic. The Serbian scored 28 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists in the match.
Denver was in trouble at the beginning in the final that decided the championship. Jokic and two other key players Jamal Murray mixed Aaron Gordon got into error trouble.
Denver wasn’t able to make the familiar effective basket either, when Miami put a position defense on the field. The team’s three-point shooting accuracy remained modest. Denver’s shooting accuracy was just 17.9 percent (5/28).
Miami kept Denver in its grip for a long time and still led 51–44 at halftime.
However, Jokic played a key role with his hard baskets as Denver raised its level in the second half and took the lead of the match. Miami’s JImmy Butler gave Miami the lead again three minutes before the end, but then Denver took the decisive blow.
Jokic made NBA history by becoming the first player to lead the playoffs in points, rebounds and assists.
– It was an ugly game. We didn’t make shots, but we figured out how to defend and scored 90 points, Jokic said after the match.
Jokic was also classically asked how it feels to be an NBA champion. The Serbian star offered a succinct answer to that.
– The work is now done. We can go home now, Jokic said.
The Serbian was also rightly chosen as the most valuable player of the finals. Jokic played through the playoffs with an average worth almost a triple-double. So Jokic made double figures in almost three statistical categories. Jokic turned the spring with averages of 24 points, 11 rebounds and 9 assists in the deciding games.
Jokic has gone through quite a growth story. In 2014, he was drafted into the NBA in the 41st round. When Jokic was booked, a commercial for a fast food restaurant was already playing on TV.
Now he has been awarded as the most valuable player of the NBA finals with the lowest steal shift.
After the championship, the 28-year-old ball player was praised a lot.
– Jokic was called a fat teenager. He was underestimated. He’s an incredible player. I have watched and played a lot of basketball, but “Joker” is an incredible player, the owner of Denver Stan Kroenke glowed.
However, despite the laconic comment, the Serbian celebrated emotionally on the parquet with his family members. Among others, Jokic’s brothers, wife and daughter were present.
– Nikola Jokic is a wonderful player, father and husband. He is the best player in the NBA. He is our most valuable player. We’re thankful he’s playing in a Nuggets jersey, Nuggets coach Mike Malone praised.
