Niklas Wikegård is one of our most popular TV profiles, but soon his time as an expert in TV is over. Wikegård, who broke through as a coach for Djurgården, returns to the Stockholm club in a role as sporting director. And thus TV4 will have a poorer profile going forward in connection with SHL broadcasts.
The meeting with Zlatan
Wikegård began his career as an expert at SVT, but then moved over to TV4. In total, it has been almost 20 years in front of the camera for Wikegård, who in the meantime has managed to become one of the most well-known and popular profiles in Swedish sports media. But even he gets starstruck by meeting one of Sweden’s greatest athletes of all time.
In an interview with Expressen, Wikegård is asked if he has ever been part of an unexpected celebrity meeting, and then reveals how he ended up in the hood of a certain Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Swede is known for his temperament and for always saying what he thinks and thinks, and this time Wikegård had done something that Zlatan did not fully appreciate.
“Then he was angry with me”
Wikegård says that he and Zlatan met by chance in a parking garage.
– I met Zlatan in a garage at Park Hotell and I asked a half-assed question and was a little starstruck. Then I told about it on Instagram so it became an article in Expressen, he says to the evening newspaper.
Shortly afterwards, they both met again by chance, and then Wikegård got his fish warm.
– But now comes the twist. About a month later we met again. In the same garage. Then Zlatan is mad at me. “You got your article,” he said. “But please”, I said, “I mostly thought it was fun to tell you about my stupid question”, says Wikegård.
