Elden Ring: Nightreign will appear in 2025 as a standalone alongside its predecessor Elden Ring and offers up to three players a kind of rogue-like with battle royale elements. The new title should reflect the flair of Elden Ring. However, fans will have to do without one special feature.
What feature is it? In the main game of Elden Ring, it was almost common practice to leave helpful or, above all, funny notes for other players at various points in the game. Using pre-written text snippets, messages and tips could be placed in appropriate places.
However, this feature also left a lot of room for trolls to leave messages to make fun of other players. For example, there were notes on various walls or cliffs that read “Hidden path ahead,” which were intended to mislead other players and get a laugh.
This possibility caused a whole bunch of memes and other funny stories in the community (for example via Reddit). Now developer FromSoftware announced in an interview with IGN that this option will no longer be available in Elden Ring: Nightreign.

Not enough time to write messages
Why won’t the feature exist? As game director Junya Ishizaki explained in the interview, the asynchronous messaging system simply didn’t fit the new game system of Elden Ring: Nightreign. The players simply wouldn’t have time to leave or read such notes in the short time of around 30 – 40 minutes that the matches are supposed to last.
In addition, placing messages within procedurally generated cards makes little sense, as they would disappear again after the match. The focus would therefore be on a clearer and faster gaming experience.
Nevertheless, some community features from the main game will also be adopted, which will make up the experience in Elden Ring. In Nightreign it should also be possible to see where and how other players died based on puddles of blood. Team members who have died should also be seen as ghosts.
In another interview, Junya Ishizaki also commented on a community concern. Players had been concerned because Nightreign had a significantly different gameplay focus than the popular main game. In the interview, the game director was able to allay one particular concern: the idea of the new Elden Ring initially excites fans, but that quickly changes – developers contradict a great fear
