When Isaac Kiese Thelin distinctly scored 2–1, played by Felix Beijmo, for MFF in Belgium, it was the second time that the Scanias took the lead.
Joseph Ceesay gave Malmö a dream start when he found the back of the net after just six minutes played.
But Union Saint-Gilloise, who last year won the regular season Jupiler Pro League as a newcomer (but finished second in the championship series behind Club Brugge), came back.
And they didn’t just come back, they turned the game around.
“Deserve more”
Christian Burgess pushed forward and nodded in the 1-1 receipt ten minutes after Ceesay’s goal – and just over ten minutes after Kiese Thelin’s goal in the second half came the 2-2 goal, signed by Teddy Teuma.
Teuma’s equalizer came in the 69th minute.
In the 71st minute, the Belgians had 3-2 on the scoreboard after Victor Boniface pushed the home team’s third cone from close range between the legs of Johan Dahlin in the MFF cage.
MFF chased an equaliser, chased points, but lost 2–3 and scored zero on Belgian soil.
— Disappointment of course, I think we play a good away game, I think we deserve more than what we get today, says Kiese Thelin in Viaplay’s broadcast.
“Is hard”
Malmö is last in its group with zero points after two games played in the group stage. Braga tops the group with six points, the same number of points also has the runner-up Union Saint-Gilloise. Third in the group, on the same points but with a better goal difference than MFF, is Union Berlin, who fell away to Braga with 0–1.
— Of course it’s hard, there are four games left, we just have to believe in it and push on, but right now it’s hard, says Kiese Thelin about the situation in the group.
In the next match, MFF will be visited by Union Berlin, who are tableless in the Bundesliga after six rounds.
