A Nigerian senator and his wife have been sued in England on charges of smuggling a 15-year-old boy to London to have his organs removed.

Ike Ekweremadu, 60, and Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55, went on trial in London yesterday.

The judge said that the attorney general’s permission is required for the court’s jurisdiction to continue the case.

It was stated that the couple will appear in court again on July 7 and will remain in detention during this time.

It was noted that the police, who acted on a tip in the court, saved the child and took it under protection.

Ekweremadu, who is also a lawyer, lives in Nigeria but teaches at Lincoln University in England.

n It is stated that he served as the vice president of the Nigerian Senate between 2007 and 2019 and has been a senator from the opposition People’s Democratic Party since 2003.

Police did not elaborate on the investigation into Ekweremadu, who will be prosecuted under modern slavery crimes, on charges of conspiracy to steal organs.
