The leaders of the West African countries (ECOWAS), opposed to the coup, ordered this Thursday, August 10 the deployment of a military force to restore constitutional order in Niger.
It was the first meeting of ECOWAS leaders since the expiration of their ultimatum issued to the military at a first summit of the organization on July 30. On this occasion, ECOWAS had brandished a threat of military intervention in the event of no return to constitutional order by Sunday August 6.
