What kind of mayor do citizens want?
Nieuwegein residents were also allowed to think about the most important qualities that their new mayor should possess. Nearly 1600 residents completed a survey for this purpose. Being reliable is – with 37 percent of the vote – the most important quality according to residents. This is soon followed by ‘is accessible to everyone’, ‘is involved’ and ‘connects people’. Being proud of Nieuwegein is less important to residents at 11 percent.
Safety is by far the most important subject that the new mayor should be concerned with, according to the survey. Forty percent of the participants indicate that they do not always feel safe on the street, and safety in neighborhoods and districts is at the top of the list of themes that deserve extra attention in Nieuwegein. Facilities for young people and the services provided by the municipality are also important to residents.
