The Paris 2024 Olympics got an unexpected surprise in the performance of the Japanese Olympic swimming team, who performed their routine to the iconic track “A Beautiful Song” from NieR: Automata.

The Japanese Olympic swimming team said they were inspired by chess for their performance. NBC announcer Andrea Holland explained that the team wanted to “express the movement of chess pieces in the water with victory at the end.”

NieR: Automata was first released on PlayStation 4 and PC in 2017, and on Xbox One in 2018.
