In January she gave birth to a daughter.
Eight months later, judoka Nicolina Pernheim Goodrich is a bronze medalist in the Paralympics.
– So very nice. I am so happy. I am so terribly super happy right now, she says to SVT.

Last winter was Judokan Nicolina Pernheim Goodrich mother and she lost her rank during pregnancy. Via a wildcard, however, the Swede was given the opportunity to make her fifth Paralympics in her career in Paris.

Now – when for the first time she is allowed to compete against others with a similar visual impairment – the 33-year-old from Gothenburg won her first medal in the Paralympics.

Salvaged bronze

With Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria and Princess Estelle in the stands, Pernheim Goodrich secured the bronze via victory against the Turkish Merve Uslu ii in the 70-kilogram class, J1.
– Pretty quickly I felt that I am stronger than she is, but she moved quite strangely. Not as I expected.

Already after just over a minute, the match was decided after the Swede won on an ippon.
– So terribly wonderful. I asked the judge: Was it me who won? Yes, you were, he replied.

Earlier in the day, there was a loss in the semi-finals against the Chinese Liu Li for Pernheim Goodrich, who before childbirth was ranked second in the world.

In the quarter-finals, the Swede only needed 1.34 minutes to win against Turuunaa LkhaijavMongolia, on ippon.

“Got the way”

However, she was tired after the morning session, but managed to recharge for the medal match.
– It has been great. Our doctor dragged a mattress with him on the bus here. So I’ve had a great time. I have been able to relax, eat and get lots of massages. It worked out, didn’t it, she tells SVT.
