Singer Nicoletta is celebrating her 50th birthday this year. She publishes a new album which revisits her greatest hits in piano-voice versions.
Barely a month ago Nicoletta celebrated 50 years on stage at the Lido. But it was in 1967 that this original Haut-Savoyarde – but which has always stretched its ears towards America – climbed without warning to the top of the bill.
“La Musique”, taken up years later as the hymn of the first Star Academy program, “Il est mort le soleil”, and a few years later “Mamy Blue”, will install Nicoletta as a great voice of French-speaking song.
She is “the only white woman to have a black voice” said Ray Charles of this performer who helped popularize gospel in France. Here she is back with an album of piano-voice covers, more intimate acoustic versions of her greatest hits, accompanied by an unpublished signed Carla Bruni.
Nicoletta’s “Amours et Pianos” is available on the Pias label.
