Niclas Lendemar from Lomma is one of the few actors in Sweden with Down syndrome who has a permanent full-time job at a professional theater in Sweden.
For over 25 years he has been a valued colleague at the Moomsteatern in Malmö, where he is described as the theater’s “grand old gentleman”.
But earlier this week something difficult happened, when Niclas was awarded Region Skåne’s cultural prize of SEK 100,000.
– I am very happy that I got this. It was fantastic, says Niclas.
The cultural board’s justification was that Niclas challenges preconceived notions and approaches and contributes to the development of the performing arts in Scania and the world.
For Nicla, it’s off on a cultural trip – to London – to immerse herself even more in the acting profession.
– I intend to continue for many years. Always!, says Niclas.
