Nicklas Lidström is the first recipient of Salming’s honorary award.
He is very happy about that.
– It’s a person I’ve looked up to since I was a little boy, says “Lidas” to Sportbibeln.
This year, the “Börje Salming Courage Award” was awarded for the first time. The award comes partly from the players’ union NHLAA, which lives up to Börje’s legacy in the form of courage, commitment and social benefit on and off the ice.
Pia about the price
The award was established in Börje Salmings memory and to draw attention to the Börje Salming ALS Foundation.
– The award is very important, that the NHL is involved in creating an award in Börje Salming’s name is, as they say in English, huge. It also means that the cooperation that the NHL is involved in and wants to participate in means that the foundation will be able to generate more money, which in turn will be able to provide greater conditions for our work to find a cure for ALS. So that means everything, says Pia Salming about the price for the Sports Bible.

The first prize winner became the hockey icon Nicklas Lidströmwhich is highly praised by the friend Mats Sundin.
– I think it’s fantastically nice. Nice to see the Salming family here. It’s so nice that he gets an award like this and that the NHL, NHL Alumni and all these big organizations are here and support this, says Sundin, who was present at the award ceremony.
Lidström’s joy
He continues:
– It is a terrible illness that Börje went through, and it is great that everyone is here. I also think that Nicklas Lidström receiving this award is so worthy. Niklas was one of Sweden’s best defenders and had Börje as his idol, and that is fantastic.

Lidström, who before the meeting between the Ottowa Senators and Detroit Red Wings dropped the game puck, is grateful for the award.
– It’s really fun. It is a great honor to receive the award in the name of my idol. A player I looked up to, and a person I looked up to, since I was a little boy. Just one thing like that makes it very special, says Nicklas Lidström.
