On the last day of July, a group of young people organizes a day of play and activities in Gävle. Nicklas Bäckström, among others, will then be present.

Nicklas Bäckström is one of Sweden’s biggest NHL stars. He has over 15 seasons in the world’s best hockey league, in most of which he has been a key player for his Washington Capitals.
Attracted NHL stars
In recent seasons, the 34-year-old has been plagued by injuries, and in this year of play he only played around 50 games, including the playoffs. After the season, he also had to undergo surgery for his dislocated hip – which reportedly went well – and is expected to be back later this year.
Nicklas Bäckström was born and raised in Valbo, just outside Gävle, and when he won the Stanley Cup in 2017/18, that’s where he took the trophy with him. Now the NHL star is making another fine effort for his hometown.

“A good initiative”
– They live out here and we have met when they are here eating ice cream. So it was just to ask, says one of the initiators, Vilmer Mossnelid, to Gefle Dagblad.
The idea behind the idea is that there are many people who cannot afford trips, hockey camps or expensive equipment. Then came the idea to attract the stars to Gävle instead.
An initiative that Nicklas Bäckström did not hesitate for a second to stand up for.
– It is a good initiative by the boys and they have worked hard for this. It’s nice that a few things are happening out here, he tells the newspaper.
