Lucas Raymond was sitting on the bench – when he was suddenly sent off.
After the win against Denmark in the WC, Mikael Renberg raged against the NHL star.
– That must not happen, says the SVT expert.
Tre Kronor has had a brilliant start to this year’s WC and with six player matches, Sweden is second in the group, just one point behind the USA. Sweden’s only point loss came against host nation Finland, where penalties were required to secure the extra point.
Total brain drain
Sweden meets the USA on Tuesday, and then has the chance to secure group victory and an easier path to a possible WC medal. On Monday came Sweden’s fifth win in this year’s championship, but it was a shaky start against Denmark, who took the lead in the match as early as the third minute.
But then Lucas Raymond stepped into the proceedings. The NHL star, who is one of the Detroit Red Wings’ most promising players, assisted Sweden’s 2-1 goal, and later scored the goal himself that made it 3-1. But it wasn’t all good things from Raymond during the match. He even had time to get sent off – which was sawed off by SVT’s Mikael Renberg.

The expert’s great criticism
Sweden already had a player in the penalty box when Raymond – from Sweden’s bench – grabbed a Danish player’s stick. The referee suddenly blew the whistle, walked over to Raymond and showed him to the penalty box. Denmark got the chance to play five against three – and the expert Renberg was mad.
– Very unnecessary expulsion. It must not happen. Sam Hallam is probably not happy with that, he says.
Sweden eventually managed to sort out the expulsions, and later won 4-1, despite Raymond’s incredible brain drop. Afterwards, the star was tight-lipped about the situation.
– I don’t know… I let the judges do their thing, I choose not to talk about it, he says to SVT.
