Another surprise was seen in Canada, where the Montreal Canadiens drilled a 5-4 away win over Calgary Flames. Calgary had won as many as 11 games in the tube at home. Winning six of their last seven matches, Montreal is still last in its division and Calgary at the top of its own.

Artturi Lehkonen scored his 14th inning of the season with a 1-1 draw in Montreal in the opening round.

The Chicago Blackhawks and Edmonton Oilers twisted in Chicago according to a longer formula. Edmonton Evander Kane hit each other in the evening, a 3-3 draw in the last minute of the actual game time and stretched the game to extra time.
