NHL reporter Elliotte Friedman gave more information about the background of Patrik Laine’s transfer.
One of the hottest news of the summer in the NHL hockey league was information from a few weeks ago Patrik Laine about the new employer. Laine, who left the NHL and the players’ association NHLPA’s treatment program in the summer, left the Columbus Blue Jackets behind and joined the Montreal Canadiens, one of the league’s most legendary clubs.
At least one other club was after the graced goal scorer, reveals the reporter who follows the NHL to the Canadian Sportsnet channel Elliotte Friedman.
– I think the Minnesota Wild were very interested in Patrik Lainee. Well, it didn’t work out, but Wild was really interested, Friedman stated on his 32 Thoughts podcast on Friday.
Laine, 26, totaled a whopping 110 regular season goals in his first three NHL seasons (2016-19) with the Winnipeg Jets. After that, in the following five seasons (2019–24), only 94 goals have been scored.
However, Laine declared after his Canadiens contract that he wants to return to the rink “as a scorer of 40-50 goals a season”. And in Montreal they seem to believe the same.
– I believe that Lainee has a big season coming up. The Canadiens really wanted him. Someone who plays a big role on the offensive end, Friedman said.
The Canadiens will begin practice games for the upcoming season on the night before September 24, Finnish time, when they face the Philadelphia Flyers. The team has a total of six practice games, and the Canadiens will then get into real action on the night before October 10, Finnish time. In the next opener of the club’s 2024-25 NHL season is the ancient and beloved enemy Toronto Maple Leafs.
