He is described as one of the SHL’s greatest talents ever.
Now North American experts are in awe of Leo Carlsson, 17.
“He reminds me of a young Mats Sundin,” writes Cam Robinson.
Leo Carlsson has already made a name for himself in the SHL. He was only 16 when he made his debut in the league with Örebro last winter, and it didn’t take long before he showed why he deserved the trust. It was a goal immediately and during the season there were eight more points scored in a total of 35 games played.
Huge tribute
During the summer, Örebro’s general manager Stefan Bengtzén named Leo Carlsson the greatest talent he has ever seen, and this season he is expected to take a further step, and gain even greater confidence in Örebro. And now even experts outside Sweden’s borders are starting to open their eyes to the super talent, who will be drafted in the NHL only next summer.
The North American expert Cam Robinson shared a clip on Twitter where he put together highlights from Carlsson’s career so far, and he does not hold back in his tribute to the Swede – whom he also compares to one of Sweden’s best players of all time.
“Call me crazy, but I see a lot of a young Mats Sundin in Leo Carlsson. Big, powerful center with hands and imagination enough to create chances for himself, and who works hard. I like it,” he writes.
“Makes your mouth water”
In the comments section of the video, Robinson continues the tributes to Carlsson, and the comparisons with Sundin continue.
“He is the same size as Sundin when he was drafted. He may not be exactly as good as Sundin at the same age. But the similes are there without a doubt,” he writes.
Mats Sundin became Sweden’s first draft pick in the NHL ever, so the comparisons are not exactly small.
Cam Robinson now believes that Leo Carlsson has a great chance of being selected as early as the top three in the draft next summer.
“Your mouth is watering,” he writes to a comment that praises Carlsson’s skill, combined with his size.
