As of April next year, Swedes must apply for a digital entry permit, so-called ETA, to travel to Great Britain, according to the British government’s website.
The permit is required for everyone entering the country, adults and children, and costs 10 pounds (equivalent to approximately 135 Swedish kronor). According to the authorities, the application, which is made via an app or online, is usually approved within three days.
– We Swedes love London, it’s a big destination, so in that way this means a big change, says travel expert Lottie Knutson to TV4.
Already today, the UK requires ETAs for nationals from several countries in the Middle East. At the turn of the year, the requirement is extended to apply to a large number of countries in the rest of the world, and in April it will also be required for travelers from most countries in Europe.
– This means a cost and more hassle for the travelers. I think it will be received with some surprise because so little has been communicated. It will probably require major information efforts, says Knutson to TV4.
