PRINCE WILLIAM. Prince William will walk alongside his brother, Prince Harry, behind their grandmother’s coffin on September 14. An expected image but which does not sign the reconciliation of the two brothers.

[Mis à jour le 14 septembre 2022 à 12h04] This is the question that all the British asked themselves: will Prince William and Prince Harry walk side by side behind the coffin of their grandmother Elizabeth II? Well, yeah ! This Wednesday, September 14, the two brothers will be in the leading group of the procession between Buckingham Palace and Westminster Hall in the company of their father, King Charles III, and other members of the royal family. This will be Prince William and Harry’s second joint appearance in a matter of days – the two men have already appeared in public together and with their respective wives on September 10 outside Windsor Castle – after two years without speaking to each other.

Relations between Prince William and his brother Harry have been icy since January 2020 and the exile of the younger brother to California. The tensions are such that in April 2021 on the occasion of the funeral of their grandfather, prince Philip, the bereaved grandchildren did not have to walk side by side. Will the death of Queen Elizabeth II succeed, this time, in bringing the blue-blooded brothers closer? Not sure because William and Harry’s previous appearance together, if requested by the future king, could only be arranged after lengthy negotiations. In fact, the place of the brothers in the funeral procession this Wednesday could be only a new “demonstration of unity” of facade when behind the scenes their exchanges remain so cold. This is at least the observation made by several royal sources reported by the DailyMail who noticed a “very clear division” between members of the Windsor family. Even on the evening of the Queen’s death, on September 8, Prince William would not have exchanged a word with his brother or eaten at the same table as him. If in the eyes of the public, the two men have agreed to show signs of appeasement, a reconciliation between the Prince of Wales and his brother still seems distant.

Prince William in cold with Harry?

The relationship between William and Harry has never been a long calm river, but the two brothers had been cold for several years. A distance that became as emotional as it was geographical in January 2020 when the youngest son of King Charles III flew to California with his wife Meghan Markle, renouncing his royal titles and duties. From then on, radio silence was imposed between the two brothers until they appeared in public again for the first time in April 2021, on the occasion of the funeral of King Consort Philip. This past year, contact between Princes William and Harry would have remained rare or even non-existent until their recent appearance in front of Windsor Castle. Note that this joint outing of the two couples was only organized after 45 minutes of negotiations between the princes.

It could be that what Princes William and Harry show in public would not be a facade of reconciliation. A royal source indicates that the two brothers have not spoken or very little since the death of their grandmother. According to the same source quoted by the DailyMail believes that “there is a very clear division” between William and Harry. The royal biographer, Angela Levin, whose remarks are reported by PurePeople explains for his part that if prince William refuses to converse with his little brother it is because he has “lost confidence”. The future king and his wife fear that their words will be recorded, twisted and used against them and their family in the next biography that Harry plans to publish. “William is reluctant to interact with Meghan and Harry because they always exaggerate everything and have already been very rude …”, continues Angela Levin always according to PuePeople not without referring to the interview that Harry and Meghan Markle had granted to Oprah Winfrey in February 2022.

William, Prince of Wales and Duke of Cornwall

Prince William was already known as the Duke of Cambridge, but by becoming the first son of the King of England, the forty-year-old was awarded new royal titles, including the coveted Prince of Wales. The future king inherited the title his father carried for 64 years and Kate Middleton became Princess of Wales, the first since the death of Lady Diana.
But the princely title is not the only one that has returned to the royal couple since Prince William and his wife are now qualified as the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall. A duchy which is added to that of Cambridge, of which they have been responsible since their marriage in 2011. William and Kate are now Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and Cambridge. A modification which also concerns the children of the couple, George, Charlotte and Louis. With these new titles come new responsibilities, with the Duchy of Cornwall being a 600 sq km estate wealthy enough to own an organic food business and generate multi-million dollar revenues and fund a share of the crown’s private finances.
