Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau is likely to announce this week that he will leave his post as leader of his Liberal Party, writes the Canadian Globe and Mail newspaper.
According to the newspaper’s sources, Trudeau could announce his resignation perhaps as early as Monday local time. According to the newspaper, the announcement would probably be received in any case before the party meeting planned for Wednesday.
It is unclear whether Trudeau will continue in his role as the party searches for a new leader.
Trudeau came to power in 2015 and led his party to victory in 2019 and 2021. In recent years, however, the popularity of Trudeau and his party has waned.
