There is no danger to residents in the area, said a news release from the municipality on Friday, but the public is being asked to stay away from the area of Yule Road between Concession 9 and Concession 8, just north of Jarvis, where offloading into a new rail car will continue for most of Friday.
Emergency services were notified about a potential leak in a rail car during an inspection at about noon on Thursday. The fire department worked with rail staff and the hazmat team to identify the leak.
The news release said the offloading requires excess product to be “flared off,” burning gas that would otherwise present a safety concern. Residents may see a large flame and black smoke in the area.
