New Zealands Maori now have a new queen

The Maori, the indigenous people of New Zealand, have been without a king for almost a week: Tuheitia Pootatau Te Wherowhero VII died last Friday at the age of 69. To everyone’s surprise, it was his 27-year-old daughter who was chosen by the Maori chiefs on Thursday, rather than her brother. Nga Wai hono i te po Paki’s grandmother had already held the position for almost forty years.
