New York strikes back – revises gun laws

New York strikes back revises gun laws

The conservative-weighted court referred in the decision, which was met with harsh criticism from the state, to the fact that the previous law violated a constitutionally protected right to bear arms.

Now, state politicians have voted through a rapidly revised gun law that introduces new restrictions. New York Governor Democrat Kathy Hochul has signed the law, which takes effect Sept. 1.

The law prohibits carrying weapons in “sensitive places” such as tourist-dense Times Square in New York City and in schools, universities, government buildings, parks, bars, sports arenas and similar places.

You are not allowed to bring either bring a weapon into shops or other workplaces unless it is clearly signposted that weapons are welcome on the spot.

The requirements are also tightened for those who want to apply for a license. In addition to the applicant having to undergo training in several ways and show references that they are capable of carrying weapons, the person must also report the social media accounts they have used in the last three years.

– Sometimes people leak out their intentions to harm others there, says Kathy Hochul.

Critical voices claim that this law also goes against the American constitution and therefore is said to be torn up by HD, while advocates say that the law keeps a good balance between following HD’s decision and at the same time stopping the wrong people from carrying weapons.
