The snake year begins on Wednesday. According to the State Xinhua news agency, a total of forty-day New Year’s time will be made together with about nine billion trips from one province to another.
Chinese state railways have increased thousands of train shifts to meet demand. Saturday was expected to be a busy day on the railway.
The new year offers many Chinese people almost the only opportunity to return to their home regions. For example, many factories are interrupting their production well before the New Year, as factory workers traditionally leave their home regions earlier than the rest of the population.
