Kristjan Ceh is the new world champion in discus.
Afterwards, he paid tribute to Daniel Ståhl, who missed out on a medal.
– Of course he can come back, says the Slovenian.
Everyone knew that it would be difficult for Daniel Ståhl to win World Cup gold in the USA. He entered the competition as world number two, and he has had a hard time beating the young Slovenian Kristjan Ceh during the season, and so it was repeated during the World Cup competition.
“It’s legendary”
Daniel Ståhl looked roasted during the warm-up, when he had a throw over 70 meters, but he never managed to repeat it later. At best, Ståhl threw over 69 meters, but it was struck due to trampling, and he never managed to get up.
Ståhl became four instead, but did not get depressed for it. Instead, he was very impressed with the Slovenian Kristjan Ceh, who with his throw of 71.13 broke a new championship record – by almost one meter.
– Legendary, it has stood since 2005 by Alekna senior and now it was junior (Mykolas Alekna) who took silver. These guys will take over the industry while the older guys like me (Lukas) Weissheidinger and (Andrius) Gudzius will go down, says Daniel Ståhl to Aftonbladet.
Tribute to Ståhl
But respect is mutual. During the competition, Ståhl came to Ceh with seemingly encouraging words. And the Slovenian was afterwards clear with what he thinks about Ståhl’s future.
– Daniel has the technology, he is the same man. It is clear he can come back, says Ceh to Swedish media.
However, he does not hide under a chair that he is the discus’ given number one, considering the success during the season and the World Cup.
– It’s done. But the discus has also gotten better. There are so many who throw stably around 68. So of course it will be tough to keep that place.
