The number of frauds via email is increasing

The scams consist of emails that appear to come from established companies in the Norrköping area. The police do not want to share any information about which companies the fraudsters pretend to be from.

In the email, recipients are asked to click on a link where they must enter their information. This is so that the recipients will have access to something the fraudsters call “important information”.

News24 have talked to Olle Älveroth who is press spokesperson at the Police Authority region east.

– We want to urge everyone who has been exposed to report this to the police, says Älveroth.

On the website, the police advise the public not to click on any links in e-mails that have been sent to them.

“If you received an email from a company where you are asked to click on a link – then contact the company first to ensure that it is really them who sent out the message,” writes the police in the eastern region.

The police’s appeal to the public

According to Älveroth, the police are now working to reach out to the public for information.

– To prevent this, we try to alert the public that this is going on, so that everyone should be extra careful with what they click on or what information they give out, he tells Nyheter24.

On police website reminds that even fraudulent emails can look credible and genuine, which is why the public is being warned.
