New Warhammer shooter is now on Steam – Looks like it’s straight out of the good old days of DOOM

Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun is now available on Steam. There you can shoot your way through bloody pixel explosions and enjoy a mix of wild first-person shooter gameplay and the visuals of the popular retro shooter.

What is Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun about? In a nutshell: shooting. If you take a look at the trailer, the first thing you will probably notice is the retro look, which is reminiscent of a Doom from the 90s.

Monsters fly apart in pixelated explosions when hit, blood spattering and splattering across the ground as you take on the next pack. You move through different levels and encounter different monsters and bosses, lava and poison, armed with different types of weapons.

In addition to the graphics from the good old days, the first-person shooter apparently relies particularly on movement and speed, as you can see from the trailer:

This is what the developers of Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun promise:

  • Instinctive combat experience with brutally satisfying gunplay, high mobility, and buckets of blood
  • Imposing firepower and a devastating arsenal for a Space Marine to dominate the battlefield
  • The ultimate homage to retro shooters, blending stylish graphics with smooth, modern first-person gameplay
  • There are three types of weapons in Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun:

  • The Grav-Cannon (gravitational weapon): The secrets of weapon construction are known only to a few. Armored targets are literally crushed, while vehicles are left as charred, smoking wrecks.
  • Boltgun: The weapon fires bolts. These explode with devastating effect once they penetrate a target.
  • Chainsword: A heavy-duty chainsaw equipped with a handle, pommel, and guard to make it more manageable. Deals massive damage to exposed flesh.
