New Volkswagen ID.7 GTX Tourer

New Volkswagen ID7 GTX Tourer

The big news with the Volkswagen ID.7 GTX Tourer is the powertrain. ID.7 Tourer in standard version has an effect of 286 horsepower which is sent to the asphalt via the rear wheels.

In the four-wheel-drive GTX version, the output is instead 340 horsepower, which means that the car is the most powerful combination Volkswagen has ever produced.

How fast the car accelerates has not been revealed, but the top speed is 180 km/h.

Sporty station wagon for a more mature target group

“GTX customers belong to a more mature target group,” explains one of the engineers on site at the screening, which is undeniably a good fit for a seasoned, but basically quite everyday, station wagon.

What sets the GTX version apart from the regular ID.7 Tourer beyond the powertrain are a number of cosmetic updates.

Exterior-wise, the most distinctive thing is perhaps the unique color Kings red metallic, as well as the fact that many of the details are black instead of chrome.

A tribute to the Golf GTI

The red paint is supposed to be a tribute to the first generation of the Volkswagen Golf GTI, and in my eyes suits the car well. However, buyers can also choose to get their ID.7 GTX Tourer in silver, black, white or grey.

The rims, which are called Skagen, and the front grill are also unique to the GTX model. In the interior, we also find new seats, as well as Volkswagen’s latest infotainment system.

Soon, the annoying touch buttons on the steering wheel will be replaced by physical ones, and the feeling of quality is generally good.

The difference between the different driving modes should now be greater than before.

Performance and practicality

The towing weight of the ID.7 GTX Tourer is 1,400 kg, which is 400 kg more than the regular ID.7 Tourer thanks to the four-wheel drive.

The volume of the luggage compartment is 605 litres, and grows to 1,714 liters when the seats are folded down. Compared to the hatchback version of the Volkswagen ID.7, headroom is better thanks to the more elongated roofline.

Long range and charging

Four-wheel drive is usually penalized when it comes to range, but the new Volkswagen ID.7 GTX Tourer is still estimated to get a good 625 kilometers on a charge with its 86 kWh battery.

The maximum charging power is 200 kW, which means charging from 10 to 80 percent in less than 30 minutes.

Sales of the new Volkswagen ID.7 GTX Tourer are planned for spring. In the long run, the standard Volkswagen ID.7 will also be offered in GTX design.
