new violent inter community clashes in the Tshopo

Worrying security situation in the province of Tshopo. After the semi-rural commune of Lubunga, intercommunity clashes between the Mbole and the Lengola were also reported this weekend on the outskirts of the capital Kisangani, precisely on the Kisangani-Ubundu axis. Entire villages were burned on this axis, report sources on the spot, with loss of life, but difficult to establish an assessment.

Armed with knives and rifles, young Mbole attacked members of the Balengola community at PK 82, killing and burning homes in their path. The villages have been emptied of their populations, report survivors. Police and army units patrol day and night, particularly in the semi-rural commune of Lubunga, where the clashes began last week.

Sale of a concession

According to our sources, the violence began last week when a land concession claimed by the Mbole was sold by the Balengola to a politician. People involved in the case have been arrested.

Absent at the time of these events, the governor of the province, Madeleine Nikomba, returned on Sunday May 7, must speak on this affair to continue the steps taken to restore peace in the province she administers.
