Djurgården had secured both the playoffs and the group victory in the Conference League, even before Thursday evening’s group stage finale against Irish Shamrock Rovers.
But even so, there was no question of taking it easy.
Djurgården basically put the best possible team on the court and showed class right from the kick-off.
In the outer zones, Djurgården did little as they wanted and when the “Blue Stripes” in the 19th minute again made their way along the left flank, Shamrock could not resist. Elias Andersson played the ball in to Kalle Holmberg, who set up Magnus Eriksson with a strike. The team captain finished coolly with his right foot and 1–0 was a fact.
A great goal, which was enough all the way to victory – the fifth in a row in the group stage – and which means another five million in the account. Djurgården has already secured around 70 million kroner with the success in the Conference League during the autumn, and in the upcoming round of 16 another million rain awaits.
Djurgården, which went undefeated through the group stage, will be seeded in the draw for the round of 16.
The round of 16 finals are drawn on February 24 and the matches are then played on March 9 and 16.
